Often seen in period magazines of the 60`s Super Accessories adverts were for a wide range equipment and accessories including a range of products from companies like Alexander and Speedwell, however their roots were originally in the specials market (inspite of the company name) and the photo above shows their original premises, and thanks go to Rob Daniels for the photo and for much of the early information, and if you have an interest in specials have a look at Rob's website.
During 1956 Les Montgomery made his first Ash/Ali body for an Austin Seven using his cousins car as a guide and this was the beggining of Super Accessories. Shortly afterwards his father joined him and they were making two bodies a week and with a growing waiting list of up to twelve weeks, they soon had to give up their furniture business in favour of full time body production.
They were soon stocking specials manifolds and Graham Broadley designed Super alloy heads and sumps for the Austin Seven, along with sports suspension kits etc.
Super Accessories then published a 36 page catalogues for both Ford Ten and Austin Seven specials containing every conceivable part for the specials builder making their showroom an absolute Mecca.
Super Accessories ceased body production in 1962 after approximately producing 220 bodies in the 6 year period, and this was mainly down to newer cars with sporting pretentions like the Frogeye Sprite, MG Midget and of course the Mini, this had led to many tuning companies appearing which meant that their market had started to dry up.
However they carried on as an motor accessory supplier until the mid 1980s and their catalogues contained not just accessories but tuning products from such companies as Aquaplane etc.
